My 2nd great-grandmother Martha Catherine Cormany was born 12 April 1829 in Wythe County, Virginia (per verbiage contained in her obituary) -- date is consistent with her headstone (Marvin Chapel Cemetery, near Milo, Missouri). Her obit does not name her parents. She wed John Adams Purcell on 5 April 1846 in Scott County, Virginia (recorded in Scott County Marriage Book 1, 1815 - 1853) -- her parents are not named within the marriage record. I have contacted the Wytheville County Genealogical & Historical Society and they were unable to find anything regarding her parentage. Additionally, I myself have done research in the Wythe County Public Library in Wytheville, and the Kegley Library within the Wytheville Community College Library -- but found nothing regarding her parentage. I then sent an email to Pat Jones seeking her assistance (she manages a website called “Scott County, Virginia Faces & Places”). She could not help, but suggested I contact Scott County Circuit Court, 202 West Jackson Street, Suite 102, Gate City, VA 24251; Phone: 276-386-3801. When I then asked if she had any experience working with the Scott County Historical Society (SCHS), she said she didn’t, but suggested I might join their private Facebook group. I joined then contacted several of SCHS' officers; none were able to provide me the answer I was seeking. I also posted a general query to the SCHS Facebook page -- did not get any responses to my query. Where would you suggest I go next to try and ascertain the names of Martha's parents? [I have my suspicions their names are John Cormany (born 1796; died by 1860) and his second wife, Elizabeth (Cook) Cormany, but have no proof (cannot locate a Will for this John Cormany) -- don't even know exactly where and when he died.
