Searching for Your Ancestors

MVGS members are researching many ancestral names from all over the world.  They may be the same names that you are researching, and it probably would be useful to exchange information with them.  You both might find that you are able to knock down at least a few bricks in your brick wall.

For MVGS members, you can add your Surname Research information yourself. If someone wants to contact you about your research, they will need to send an email using our website, but they will not know who the email is going to.  You can decide if you want to answer the email.

Members Only :  To enter your Surname info, go to your Profile under the Members Only section and click on the Surnames Tab.  Add the info there, by clicking on the + (plus sign) in the upper right.  In order to distinguish the different timeframes and places where you are researching, you can enter the surname separately for each country or place.  For instance, Riley ancestors listed in the records lived in Galway, Ireland, then moved to Canada, and then to Detroit and then Bedford, PA.  They were entered 4 times, so that the relevant years and places could be listed.  If you want to edit information you have already entered, click on the pencil beside the entry.  If you want to delete the information, click on the trash can beside the entry.  If you want to add another entry, click on the + (plus sign) in the upper right.

All Website Visitors:  To review surnames being researched by others, click on the Surname Records tab.  Because of space limitations, not all of the info is shown.  If you see a name you are interested in, click on the eyeball by that entry and additional information will be shown.  If you want to send an email to the person doing that research, click on the envelope with the question mark for that entry.  It is up to the person doing the research to decide if they would like to respond to the email.
